At the Relate Center, treatment is not about fixing what is broken. Rather, we believe, treatment is an opportunity to improve or enhance the qualities of our lives. The Relate Center was formed to bring the power of positive emotion, movement and personal mastery to bear to create beneficial change. The Relate Center offers therapies along the mind-body continuum to activate change. The types of therapies are listed on this page as well as the problems we have expertise in solving. An important component of the Relate Center’s treatment process is our commitment to an integrated, highly communicative team of providers whose intent is for you to achieve your optimal health.
Relate treatment methods include:Individual, Couple and Group PsychotherapyThere are many caricatures about psychotherapy in movies and books from the proper on the couch Freudian “uh-huhing” psychoanalyst to the “how did it make you feel” therapist. Fundamentally, psychotherapy is a learning process. Recent neuroscience studies have demonstrated, through MRI imaging, brains changing during psychotherapy—as you would expect in any good learning experience. The key variable to successful psychotherapy is developing a therapeutic relationship with someone who “gets you,” who you feel understands you and you can trust. Within the experience of positive support, throw in an occasional challenging push and an enriching learning environment is created. At the Relate Center we strive to make talk therapy insightful, engaging and relevant to your day-to-day life. By working in a non-judgmental environment that provides information, tools and a framework for change and integration, we, at the Relate Center, are committed to facilitating a sense of personal mastery and accomplishment in your life. Physical TherapyPhysical therapy plays a crucial role in helping clients build a stronger and more positive relationship with their body. This relationship with the body is the foundation of physical health and a building block for connecting body, mind and emotions and achieving optimal health. Relate physical therapy treatment takes place in a private and peaceful setting. Clients work one on one with a licensed physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor and gynecological health. Relate offers a unique combination of manual therapy, EMG biofeedback, exercise and education allow clients to gain awareness and improve the health of the pelvic musculature and to better understand the role of pelvic floor muscles in sexual activity. In addition, physical therapy treatment of co-diagnoses such as chronic pain, incontinence, IBS, voiding difficulties, organ prolapse and others play an important role in restoring sexual health. Physical therapy can also be extremely helpful in addressing the effects of chronic illness and preparing for and recovering from surgeries such as prostatectomy, mastectomy and hysterectomy. Sex TherapySex Therapy is a specialized type of counseling/psychotherapy provided by a licensed psychotherapist, or LCSW. Sex therapy empowers people to overcome roadblocks toward sexual well-being and enhance intimate relationships. Through this specialized form of treatment, clients can explore their feelings in a comfortable environment and to awake their emotional and physical selves. The Relate Center offers a practical, action-oriented approach to sex therapy. Beginning with an assessment of physical problems that are causing distress, we help clients sort out what other aspects may be affecting the person’s optimal health. Past trauma, early negative messages, and stressful intimate relationships all influence a person’s physical experiences of sexual response. After diagnosis, a dynamic treatment plan is created which incorporates education, exploration, communication skills and homework. While some clients need only several sessions, others may benefit from therapy on a long-term basis. At the Relate Center, it is our goals for clients are to gain a deeper understanding of their bodies and develop positive perceptions of sexuality and experience a sense of possibility and richness to their sexual experience. Though disorders are a common reason why people seek therapy, Relate also offers clients the opportunity to enrich already healthy sex lives. Our therapy and educational resources address the desire to invigorate relationships and communicate with an intimate partner on a more meaningful level. PilatesPilates instruction serves as an extension of psychotherapy and physical therapy treatment at Relate. Clients work directly with a certified pilates instructor to improve body awareness, deepen the connection between breath and body movement and to broaden the understanding of the pelvic floor and its role in core stabilization. Pilates training takes exercise to a new level as it invokes thoughtful recruitment of deep muscles within our core and requires a conscious connection with the breath. Adaptable to all fitness levels and body types, pilates helps clients use their mind and body in a dynamic and interactive way. Equine Facilitated TherapyThe Relate Center combines equine facilitated learning with intimacy and relational therapy. This treatment approach provides women and men with an approach for change that balances feminine and masculine principles in an authentic environment. Horses give us an opportunity to see ourselves and the behavioral patterns that limit us. Our equine therapy offer you an opportunity to take that learning and bring about lasting change. Through a series of specially-designed activities, Relate Center clients deepen awareness of personal issues, core feelings, and areas of bodily tension that inhibit their ability to reach their true potential. A tremendous boost in self-esteem and confidence comes from learning how to establish boundaries and direct a thousand pound creature through mental focus, creative visualization and clarity of intent. |
